Martial arts in Övertorneå

Brazilian jiu-jitsu, submission wrestling and boxing

Get in shape

You get a good workout where fitness, strength and mobility come along for free while you're busy solving problems.

Powerful self-defence

You learn to handle an opponent who's bigger and stronger than you. It's a skill, not just a way to train.

Social and fun

You get to know people fast when you train with them. Many come as much for the company as for the training.

Training

There's room for everyone

Welcome to our club here in Övertorneå, where we train martial arts in a way that’s both fun and safe. Our sessions are for everyone, whatever your gender, experience, age, or however fit you are. Whether you’re after good exercise, want to learn self-defence or are looking for a fun sport that suits you, we’ll help you get there.

Your first session

What happens when you turn up

What you need

Loose training clothes you can move in, and a water bottle.

You set the pace

The intensity builds gradually through the session, and how hard you go is up to you.

Nothing is forced

You don't have to do anything you're not comfortable with.

Common questions

What people usually wonder

Do I need to be fit to train here?

Absolutely not! People here train at every level and you go at your own pace from the first session. The fitness comes from the training, you don’t need it beforehand.

What if I know nothing?

That’s exactly how everyone started, and nothing is expected of you. The basics are what matter, and the basics are what we work on.

Can girls and women train?

Of course. One big advantage is learning to protect yourself against a bigger and stronger opponent, and we think everyone should learn to defend themselves.

Isn't it uncomfortable being that close to someone?

Many people think so at first, yes. Don’t worry, you get used to it surprisingly fast and you’ll feel safe and be far too busy having fun.

Do I have to spar?

No, but sparring is the biggest part of the training, so most people try it fairly soon. You set the pace together, and whoever has trained longer adapts to you.

Isn't it dangerous?

We train martial arts, so of course there’s a risk of injury. That’s why we do techniques under control, so there’s time to stop before anyone gets hurt, and why we stay away from the most dangerous situations. Expect the odd bruise, but real injuries are rare.

What we train now

?

Grappling is martial arts without punches and kicks. You wrestle, take control and finish with a joint lock or a choke. It covers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling.

What we'd like to start

?

Kamplek is play built around wrestling, physical contact and playing together: pulling, pushing, shoving, chasing, catching, holding on and grappling. Always as play, where the point is the game itself rather than winning. Read more at the Swedish Budo and Martial Arts Federation
